Behold The Lamb of God

John:1:29: The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

1Peter 18 & 19: Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:

What is all this about Jesus the Lamb?

The Plan God has set up for man to get into proper relationship with Him, we see first in Genesis chapter 3 after the Sin of Adam.
21: Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them.
This was the first death and it was to cover the sin of Adam.

Next we see God showing man how to be in proper relation with Him. In Genesis chapter 4:3-5 we have Cane and Abel.
And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the LORD. And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering: But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect
Here we have a very important point to make. We must do things God's way not what we think
will be good enough. People trying to please God by being good enough are like the fruits of
Cain. God had Jesus in mind as each of these lambs were slain for a sin covering.
Later as the nation of Israel was born God would have a day set a side for the sacrifice called
The Day Of Atonement. We will look at this later as it is described in the New Testament book of Hebrews.

Next we come to "The Passover Lamb" from Exodus 12. In verse 13 we have the great pronouncement of God
"and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you,
when I smite the land of Egypt."
This is our hope and salvation, "When God sees the blood" we will be safe when judgment comes.

Finally let's look at the New Testament letter to the Hebrews to see Jesus as the fulfillment of
all the Old Testament sacrifices. I will just post a few verses from chapter 9 11-14
But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building; Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us. For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh: How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
We have here a description of "The Day of At-ONE-MENT" where in the Old Testament the High Priest carried the blood of the sin offering into the "Holy Of Holies" to place it on the mercy seat, this was to atone for the sins of the nation. All of that was a picture of the coming "Lamb Of God" that would die and take His blood into Heaven to place it at the mercy seat there. Therefore obtaining eternal redemption for all who will come to God to ask forgiveness.

I would like to end this section with a few words from the letter to the Romans chapter 5:8-11. Please note that last phrase.
But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life. And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement.
Remember, GOD has a Plan and to try it any other way is to go the way of Cain.
